Working Man

Tuesday, September 26, 2006 by GB

They say you realise the value of the money when you start earning it, when you start working for it. I haven't yet entered the world of big money or big job yet, but the rule still applies to even a part-time job.

Working at the Goodyear Dining Centre, I realised how much pain it is to work in a "hospitality - hotel" kinda business. The pressure I undergo in the mere 4 hours of my job is an eye-opener to me. Constantly catering to the customers (here students) making sure everything's clean and eatable, refilling pans, getting those dishes... trying to find where they are and then alerting the cooks whenever I run out of them... phew!! It's a tiresome job. But people are doing it, without a complaint and they are working more than 4 hours!!

It's not that they are strong or I am weak, but its the attitude that you carry to the work. Today I felt that if I keep cribbing about the job, I would probably never ever get to be happy in any job that I might end up doing, now or later.

My quest for finding a better or different job is as frustrating as it could get. One thing I couldn't guess was the competition for the most menial of jobs. I should probably stop cribbing about that too since there is going to be no change, whatsoever, in it.

A lot of things are tied up to my job or to my finding a job. And to fulfill them one after another would be a pleasue am looking forward to. But then... it all boils down to.... a

JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dreams....

Tuesday, September 12, 2006 by GB

vikinG,
the recurrent theme of your dream life is Empowerment.

You're dreaming about antagonistic people and situations that are threatening to diminish your personal power. This means that in some area of your life, you're searching for ways to regain your sense of security and certainty.

And for further info, they are asking me $4.95. Naaa... my dreams aren't worth that much. I am glad with this.

Yesterday night / Today morning, I dreamt of people trying to capture 2 stray dogs and the smaller one of the two escaped and unfortunately, I was outside and couldn't go back into the room. The dog was ready to bite me when I grabbed its jaws. I got scratched on my hand (I was even thinking about the injections and all in my dream!!) and I held onto its jaws and started smashing to the pole beside me until its head broke off from the body!!! Ewww,,, I never knew I had so much power!!!

But I don't know why I got that dream!! Can someone explain?? I am fighting against something. I know that much for sure. But the battle is dangerous.... know why???

I don't know whom I am fighting against.

I like discussing about dreams and what they signify. I have my own theory about them. (own in the sense, using principles or ideas set forth by others).

The brain, and its neurons connectivity is said to be the main reason behind our memory power. Every thing we come across is stored in our brain by way of a new neuron connection and is retained so. When we sleep, the brain kinda rearranges the entire neural network (may be for optimising or something like it) and we have these weird dreams about unconnected people, events and what not.

If you had actually seen the movie, "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", my this hypothesis could probably be more easy to understand. The process Jim Carray undergoes for erasing Kate from his memory and the subsequent memories comeing back to him is exactly what I am thinking about.

The person who gave the info about Neurons and memory storage of brain is my friend Satya and so any credit is his.

I typed all this????? Phew!!! Am tired!
I had to work again in the dish room today, kinda volunteered. Anyways, to know how much food is being wasted on hopeless teenagers and how much food they waste, you gotta be in the dish room!! Trust me, the biggest problem in the dishroom is not washing the plates or other stuff but disposing off the leftovers!!! And I thought only Indian marriages were the official lunch and dinner food waste events!!

New Theories... Do I Care??

Sunday, September 10, 2006 by GB

I typed almost six paragraphs before some glitch wiped it all away. Argh!!!!

Anyways, in short, I heard about a new theory (told to me by my friend) that Indira Gandhi was definitely the mother of Sanjay Gandhi but Feroz Gandhi was not the father of him And etc etc about the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty.

I don't care if its true or not. I am not anyways proud of that heritage. My history knowledge is mostly based on what I have read in my social studies book and few tv programs and thats all. But the question I want to ask is, "is the need to study history important??"

Why do we need to know when half of it is doctored by vested interests?? Why do we need to know or read the history when successive governments change history based on their views? Why do children need to know such inaccurate version of history??

What purpose does it serve when we "have to learn from our history" and the history is no more!!!

Do you really care for that matter? Do you really need this knowledge of who did what (ones that do no matter) for our day-to-day struggle with job, family, money etc??

I lost the trust on history. Whats the use of studying it when censorship power lies with the powers that are. Whats the point in even knowing what is distorted??? That how distorted it is? Even for that, you need to know the truth.

I want to know the truth about Kashmir, I wanna know about the various issues that plague our country. Give me the information which is not biased and distorted.

Why do we cry about Chinese government censorship, ours is not better. So much for free speech!!

Somehow, that I am able to write this might indicate we'd have free speech!!! :D
WOW!!!

A Pain to Update...

Friday, September 08, 2006 by GB

I never had this problem before (yeah right!!). Updating was something I did on a very regular basis. But not nowadays, especially this blog of mine seems to be plagued by few ever-prevailing reasons like boredom and laziness.

I have to update this blog. This is after all my professional space (hahaha!!). Jokes apart, I don't have anything professional to blog about nowadays. The principles and the ideals I held close to my heart are taking a beating every other day. My opinions about things are changing every day. Why???

Either the very fundamentals of my ideals/opinions were wrong and biased or the world itself is changing. Or.... I am meeting new people with ideas I never knew existed. This again means that either I was living in a shell all this while or that I am just learning my way through this world.

But, how can I be so sure that all I learn now from the "new people" is correct and that I am wrong?? Does this mean I believe "them" more than I do myself?? Or does this indicate that I am too amenable???

I may not know. I might not. But all this aside, one thing that I know for sure is that the "world" is a really big place, different in every possible way it can be. The idealogy, the culture, the people, the cuisine (which unfortunately I don't seem to enjoy), the rules and the most important of all, myself.

Many may not agree that you need to be different in different places and then go ahead crib about how important it is to be yourself at every place. Being oneself is different from adapting to the new place. I haven't got any grievance about one here, atleast not yet. But I suspect I might get.

" And birds go flying at the speed of sound
To show you how it all began
Birds came flying from the underground
If you could see it then you'd understand"

I can't seem to understand... I can't seem to understand.... am I seeing it??

No there seems to be no link between the song and what I have written about. It just popped up in my mind when I was listening to that song. Hmm..

I want to write. I want to write something. I want to write something meaningful. I want to write something meaningful, not just to me, but everybody else. I want to write something meaningful, not just to me, but everybody else, but just don't seem to get anything to write. This is fun. Hmm...

While USA seems to be busy with their memorial service for 9/11, all I can hear about everywhere here is the conspiracy theories, still alive and kicking even after 5 years of the incident. Funny, how the event has assumed such a huge proportion, that everything related to it is considered an event in itself. New designs for the WTC are up and so are the various commemorative events organized by everybody who wants one. Politicians use this time to direct some ill-meant blame on their rivals. Thank god, US has only two major parties, so there are only two sides to any argument that we have to listen to. Or .. is there a third??

I don't know for sure who Clinton is a candidate for, democrats or republicans (though a simple google search would have cleared it), I would prefer to be ignorant. All I know is that Bill, The Clinton wala, is the poster-boy for his party and they wouldn't allow his image to be tarnished by something like 9/11, he is, after all, too busy repairing his own after a one "11ski".

I don't mean to be "mean" by humoring about 9/11. It was a bad thing to happen. A blot on human face and that is all I can say about it. Whatever be the reasons behind it.

Now I did update... I kinda like this. This must be very familliar for those coming from Live! I do call them, The Really Randoms VII. Teeheehee.
